Ikos 2

Have mercy, O Theotokos, upon our misery. Attend to our weaknesses and defects, for the world is against us even as we light our candles in the wilderness. Lead us to the will of God, strengthen us in our beliefs, and teach us to sin not and to pray always:

Rejoice, our sacred Mother of forgiveness.

Rejoice, for you choose life and vanquish corruption.

Rejoice, our wonderful Lady of meekness.

Rejoice, for you give blessings and conquer partiality.

Ikos 3

Turn not away, O Theotokos, though our sinful disfigurement is repulsive, for we are suffering and we are drawn to your lovingkindness. We ask for mercy and we seek eternal life. Not to do so would only render us even more hideous, and therefore we rely on your tenderness:

Rejoice, brilliant light exposing the deception of evil.

Rejoice, vital intercessor for the salvation of the world.

Rejoice, extensive wall obstructing the advance of wickedness.

Rejoice, abundant provider for the hungry and thirsty.

Rejoice, pure fountain extinguishing the flames of heresy.

Kontakion 4

Because of you, we hasten to our icon corner and we anticipate your holy response to our prayers. Because of love, we approach and cannot resist your humility and majesty. Awestruck by your virtues, Mother of God the Merciful, we renounce our former lusts, and to this we say: Alleluia.

Ikos 4

Dare we say that we love you, O Theotokos, we who are mired in sin. If we know what love is, then it is because we have received love and cannot deny the transformation that has taken place within us and among us. Therefore, we apply ourselves to bringing forth praises:

Rejoice, good soil forbidding the weeds of deviance.

Rejoice, diligent gleaner of disciples in all nations.

Rejoice, productive field evicting the locusts of decadence.

Rejoice, capable gatherer of souls in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Rejoice, Our Lady the Merciful, for you delight in salvation.

Kontakion 5

Our Lady the Merciful, you are the Merciful Mother of the Merciful Son. For, we pray always, “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy upon me, a sinner.” As sinners, we likewise implore you for undeserved mercy, that we might not be separated by sin but united in God, and say: Alleluia.

Ikos 5

Help us, O Theotokos, with the various needs of daily living. Help us, above all things, to seek the Kingdom first and to thank God for all His ways. Have mercy, that we may live in thanksgiving, that we may become like Christ, and that we may show mercy to our families and loved ones:

Rejoice, that our faith will be unshakable.

Rejoice, for you are glorious balm upon our wounds.

Rejoice, that our hope will be unwavering.

Rejoice, for you are fragrant ointment upon our souls.

Rejoice, that our parents will see the Heavenly Kingdom.

Rejoice, Our Lady the Merciful, for you delight in salvation.

Kontakion 6

For the sake of mercy, that divine and tender quality, we unfortunate ones ask with hope. Since God the Father is merciful, we beseech your mercy, Mother of God the Merciful, for you are blessed among women. Save us who are poor, enrich us with mercy, and we shall say: Alleluia.

Ikos 6

Change our sadness into joy, O Theotokos, for we can only feel joy as the unworthy recipients of  life-giving mercy. Fill us with that life, for God is a God of the living. We therefore wish to complete the remainder of our days giving life and not death to everyone around us:

Rejoice, that our torment will be transformed into gladness.

Rejoice, for you are a springtime of blessings.

Rejoice, that our deficiency will be turned into charity.

Rejoice, for you are a treasury of goodwill.

Rejoice, that our neighbors will rise from the pit.

Rejoice, for you are the Mother of Life.

Rejoice, that our countrymen will escape from their chains.

Rejoice, for you are the New Eve.

Rejoice, that our path will lead to Eternity.

Rejoice, for you are an eagle to show the way.

Rejoice, that our worship will ascend to Heaven.

Rejoice, for you are a lamp to subdue the darkness.

Rejoice, Our Lady the Merciful, for you delight in salvation.

Kontakion 7

Our Lady the Merciful, you are ever-faithful to the Word of God and to His plan of salvation. From the manger to the tomb, you have served God and pondered all things in your heart. We know, and we are amazed, that you will also consider our requests, and we truly say: Alleluia.

Ikos 7

How can we begin to praise you, O Theotokos, we who are blinded with iniquities and crippled with diseases. If we have any strength, if we have any encouragement, then it is only because you have already shown us more mercy than we presently comprehend:

Rejoice and allow us to sing before the icons.

Rejoice, cause of gladness.

Rejoice and help us to pray before the Cross.

Rejoice, source of holiness.

Rejoice and enable us to grow our gardens.

Rejoice, ground of fruitfulness.

Ikos 8

Depart not from us, O Theotokos, but rescue us into your boundless mercy as we bring our troubles before you. Your mercy is greater than our sins, and therefore we implore you to look upon our grievous condition and nurture every heart, soul and mind:

Rejoice and move us to bond with the timeline of Godliness.

Rejoice, victorious caretaker.

Rejoice and direct us to merge with the mind of the Church.

Rejoice, triumphant inclusion.

Rejoice and train us to emulate the saints and martyrs.

Rejoice, sacred partner.

Rejoice and encourage us to study the fathers and elders.

Rejoice, precious companion.

Rejoice, Our Lady the Merciful, for you delight in salvation.

Kontakion 9

Our Lady the Merciful, since we are baptized, since we confess our sins and partake of Communion, since we love one another, we are the household of God and it is right for us to praise you. May we not forsake that joy, but proceed in humility and gratitude, and forever say: Alleluia.

Ikos 9

Not only do we ask for mercy, O Theotokos, but we celebrate your feast days and we thrive on your many icons which you have bestowed upon us. Nothing shall prevail against the Church, and so we accept mercy, we respond to mercy, and we apply mercy to our words and deeds:

Rejoice, for you are the Queen of Heaven.

Rejoice, for we are obedient to your beauty.

Rejoice, for you are the Lady of Mercy.

Rejoice, we are submissive to your purity.

Ikos 10

Our great privilege, O Theotokos, is to behold your mercy upon us and to live in thanksgiving. Thank you for Heavenly aid in our earthly journey, for peace in the night and sanity in the day, for everyone on our path, and for the capacity to bring forth praises:

Rejoice, Our Lady the Merciful, for you delight in salvation.

Kontakion 11

Our Lady the Merciful, next to the Holy Trinity you are worthy of all praise and reverence. We worship the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and we turn to you as our holy intercessor. We constitute a race of people as Christians, indebted to your blessedness, and we sincerely say: Alleluia.

Ikos 11

Why would we seek the approval of the worldly, O Theotokos, we who have received divine treasures and pure religion. Let us not return to the pit out of which we have been lifted, or be swayed by antichrist opinions, but let us remain faithful to true doctrine and the life of prayer:

Rejoice, because you are beloved of God.

Rejoice with the saints and angels.

Rejoice, because you are praised by Christians.

Rejoice with the apostles and myrrhbearers.

Rejoice, Our Lady the Merciful, for you delight in salvation.

Kontakion 12

When we reflect on life thus far, we are stunned by our ingratitude but encouraged by your steadfast devotion to our salvation. You knew us before we knew ourselves, Mother of God the Merciful, and we are just beginning to appreciate your tender care for us who say: Alleluia.

Ikos 12

Endow us, O Theotokos, with complete dedication to the Church of which we are the baptized members and Christ is the Head. Stabilize us in our morning and evening prayers, refresh our being with mercy as we uphold our responsibilities, and make us worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven:

Rejoice, because you love with everlasting splendor.

Rejoice with every hardworking fisherman.

Rejoice, because you give with voluntary generosity.

Rejoice with every leper at the wayside.

Rejoice, Our Lady the Merciful, for you delight in salvation.

Kontakion 13

Our Lady the Merciful, you have shown us your mercy in unexpected ways, for your ways are the ways of God and not of the world. We ask, and we receive more than we asked for, and we are thereby rescued and honored beyond mortal imagination. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia.
